The Mbasa Qilingele Foundation is proud to celebrate an exciting achievement: our founder, Mbasa Qilingele, was recently named a provincial finalist at the Eastern Cape Sport and Recreation Achievers Awards 2024.
Hosted by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture at Nelson Mandela University, the event recognized outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to sport in the province. MEC Sibulele Ngqongo congratulated nominees for their passion, perseverance, and impact. Mbasa’s nomination highlights not only her accomplishments as a powerlifting athlete, but also her ongoing work as a changemaker in the disabled youth community.
As a finalist, Mbasa stands among athletes who have pushed boundaries and raised the bar in their respective disciplines. Her nomination reinforces her dual role: an athlete with national potential and a community leader making waves in advocacy and youth development.
She used the platform to encourage young people to believe in themselves, emphasizing the importance of hard work, discipline, and staying drug-free. Her presence served as a powerful reminder that excellence is born from persistence and purpose.
This recognition not only honours Mbasa, but also amplifies the broader mission of the foundation — to empower, uplift, and create real opportunities for disabled youth in South Africa.
